Although you wouldn’t know it by looking at the thermometer, it’s Christmastime in the Lowcountry. Due to unusually-warm El Niño weather, we in the Charleston area are experiencing a unique continuation of the growing season into the end of the calendar year. Today, on Christmas Eve, sounds of lawnmowers abound. People are sprucing up their yards as if they were preparing for Easter.
Although the Lowcountry’s climate is warm enough to allow winter planting of deciduous trees/shrubs and evergreens, we may have a unique opportunity in winter 2016 to get a heard-start on root development for new installations typically conducted in the late winter/early spring. As I’ve noted before, sod often fairs better when installed during cooler weather.
But regardless of what the thermometer says, I wish each and every one of you a Merry Landscaping Christmas from Lowcountry Vistas Charleston, LLC landscaping!
